Katz Threatens New War on Lebanon Unless Hezbollah Disarms

Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz warned that his country "will not hesitate to act strongly in Lebanon again" if Hezbollah does not relinquish its weapons before the end of the year.

كاتس يهدد بحرب جديدة على لبنان ما لم يتخل حزب الله عن سلاحه قبل نهاية العام

1. Israel's Conditions and Skepticism About Hezbollah's Commitment

  • Threat of War: Katz stressed that "military action will strongly become an option again" if the disarmament step is not implemented by the deadline.

  • Israeli Skepticism: Katz expressed conviction that Hezbollah will not voluntarily commit to disarming and sees no realistic possibility of the party adhering to the defined "American conditions."

  • Preparation for Scenarios: The Minister confirmed that Israel is "preparing for all scenarios" due to its conviction that the commitment to dismantle the missile arsenal "will not be fulfilled."

2. Lebanese Context and Continuous Tension

  • Lebanese Deadline: The Lebanese government had set a deadline until the end of the year to implement a disarmament plan for Hezbollah, which it tasked the army with preparing.

  • Hezbollah's Rejection: The party rejected these moves and warned that they could "ignite a civil war" in Lebanon.

  • Ceasefire Violations: Despite a ceasefire reached about a year ago, Israel continues to launch strikes in Lebanon targeting "military structures and elements of the party," vowing to prevent it from restoring its capabilities. Israeli forces also remain in 5 border points that Lebanon demands they withdraw from.
