Kremlin Comments on Trump's Decision to Deploy Nuclear Submarines

In a new development in the escalating tensions between Washington and Moscow, the Kremlin has called for "extreme caution" regarding nuclear threats. This statement comes in response to US President Donald Trump's order to deploy two nuclear submarines, a reaction to what he deemed "provocative" statements by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev.

Peskov's Remarks: American Submarines Are Already on Combat Duty

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that "it is obvious that American submarines are already on combat duty, and this is an ongoing process... These submarines are constantly maneuvering, regardless of Trump's statements." He added, "We believe that everyone should exercise extreme caution in their statements on nuclear issues."

On a separate note, Peskov disclosed that American mediation efforts in the Ukraine war are "very important," hinting that Russian President Vladimir Putin might meet with US envoy Steve Witkoff this week. He described the communication with Witkoff as "always welcome... important, meaningful, and very useful."

Trump's Order in Response to Medvedev

US President Donald Trump had posted on his "Truth Social" account on Friday, announcing that he had "ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines to appropriate areas" in response to Medvedev's remarks. Trump wrote, "Based on the very provocative statements made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, I have issued orders to deploy two nuclear submarines to appropriate areas, in anticipation that these reckless and incendiary statements are more than just words."

Trump emphasized that "words are very important, and often lead to unintended consequences, and I hope this is not one of those cases." Earlier, Medvedev had said that Trump should remember that "Russia is not Israel or Iran" and that the language of "ultimatums" is a step towards war.
