Iran’s National Security Chief, Ali Larijani, landed in Muscat on Tuesday for pivotal talks with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. This high-stakes visit aims to evaluate the future of indirect negotiations with the United States, following a new round of talks held last week. Larijani's presence signals a shift towards a more strategic security-focused dialogue, building on the diplomatic efforts previously led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The talks in Oman face significant hurdles, primarily Iran's insistence on its right to enrich uranium—a red line for the Trump administration. With the memory of the June 2025 airstrikes still looming, Muscat is intensifying its mediation role to bridge the gap between Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and Washington’s demands for strict limitations. Larijani’s mission is seen as a critical attempt to stabilize a diplomatic track that was nearly derailed by the recent 12-day conflict.
