French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that any Israeli move to annex the occupied West Bank would be a "red line" for the United States and would spell the end of the Abraham Accords. His remarks came after a conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump.

U.S.-European Alignment and a Threat to the Accords
In an interview with France 24, Macron said Trump was clear on his opposition to the West Bank annexation, confirming "alignment" between European and American positions. Macron added that such a step would also be "the end of the Abraham Accords," which were a "success story" of the previous Trump administration. He noted that the United Arab Emirates, a key signatory, had already made it clear that annexation would be a "red line" that would terminate efforts toward regional integration.
Israeli Settlement Expansion Plan
Macron's comments follow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approval of a controversial plan to expand settlements in the West Bank. This includes constructing thousands of new housing units in the "E1" area. The plan, which had been frozen for decades due to international opposition, would effectively bisect Palestinian territory, making a geographically contiguous Palestinian state nearly impossible.
Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich presented the plan as a response to countries recognizing a Palestinian state, claiming it would "erase" the idea of a Palestinian state.
A French-American Peace Proposal
Macron revealed that he presented Trump with a three-page peace proposal, and that the U.S. needs to "take it on and deal with it." He stressed that a concerted effort by the U.S., Arab nations, and Europeans to support this plan could lead to a positive outcome. This follows Trump's administration presenting a separate 21-point peace plan to Arab leaders to end the war in Gaza.
