Military Shield: IDF to Deploy "Permanent Bodyguards" for Top Generals Amid Fears of Iranian Revenge

In an unprecedented move, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) decided on Thursday, February 5, 2026, to significantly expand the unit responsible for protecting senior officers. For the first time, the military will recruit "permanent security personnel" to provide 24/7 protection for high-ranking generals and military delegations abroad. The protection will even extend to certain officers after they retire, reflecting a heightened threat level following two years of high-profile assassinations targeting IRGC leaders and regional proxies.

According to Army Radio, the Operations Directorate—now navigating a post-Halevi leadership era—has promoted the protection unit's commander to the rank of Colonel. A senior military source noted, "We have filled our enemies' battery of revenge for the next hundred years," justifying the massive budget and personnel shift. This strategic fortification aims to prevent any asymmetric Iranian retaliation against the IDF’s top brass as regional tensions reach a boiling point.
