A major diplomatic crisis has erupted following Moscow's accusation that Kyiv launched 91 drones targeting President Vladimir Putin’s official residence in Novgorod. The Kremlin labeled the strike a "terrorist attack" and informed U.S. President Donald Trump that Russia would now "re-evaluate" previous negotiation milestones. While President Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the claims as a "lie" fabricated to justify further Russian aggression, Trump expressed concern, stating that the attack occurred at a "highly sensitive time" for diplomacy.

The escalation threatens a potential breakthrough involving a demilitarized zone and a ceasefire along current frontlines. Zelensky continues to advocate for "international forces" and 15-year U.S. security guarantees as essential components of any deal. However, the Kremlin remains firmly opposed to a foreign military presence. With Russia advancing in Donbas and the status of occupied territories still unresolved, the path to a signed agreement involving the U.S. and Europe faces its most rigorous test yet.
