Hezbollah announced on Tuesday the election of Naim Qassem as Secretary-General of the party, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah.
نعيم قاسم أميناً لحزب الله.. هل هي إشارة إلى الحرب الطويلة؟

Hezbollah said in a statement that the selection of Qassem came in accordance with the mechanism followed by the party to elect the Secretary-General, as Qassem held the position of Deputy Secretary-General.

The party pledged to “strive to achieve the principles of the party, complete its path, and continue the path of resistance,” according to the statement.

Preparing for the long battle

Writer and political researcher Daoud Rammal said:

“My first comment is that Naim Qassem has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he and the members of Hezbollah’s Shura Council are not in Lebanon.

I believe that his previously rumored move to Tehran has now been confirmed.

Once he was elected Secretary-General of the party, he became a target for the Israeli side.

Qassem’s election points to a fundamental issue, which is controlling the chaos that has plagued Hezbollah during this period.

Such a move would mean that the war would be prolonged.

Hezbollah’s move to elect a secretary-general is a prelude to a long war with Israel.

The elected figure is a well-known figure who has extensive relations with all segments of Lebanese society.

Even Hezbollah’s opponents have often gone to Naim Qassem’s office to express their views.

He is an excellent administrator, but with an important problem: he was not part of Hassan Nasrallah’s core team.

He has the difficult task of restructuring the party’s structure.

Now we have to wait and see who will be the next head of the party’s executive committee and security leadership.

After the election of the secretary-general, there are a number of decisions that await us after the election of the secretary-general.
