The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that NATO air and missile defense assets stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean intercepted and destroyed an Iranian ballistic missile targeting Turkish airspace. According to the official statement, the projectile was tracked traversing Iraqi and Syrian territories before it was identified as a direct threat to Turkey. The interception occurred over the sea, though debris from the defensive missile landed in the Dörtyol district of Hatay province. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries were reported following the incident.

Ankara’s response was swift and resolute. The Turkish Presidency, via the Anadolu Agency, asserted that the nation's readiness to defend its borders is at its "highest level" and that it would take every necessary step without hesitation to protect its sovereignty. While maintaining close consultations with NATO allies, Turkey warned that it reserves the right to respond to any hostile acts under international law. This high-stakes interception underscores the growing complexity of the regional conflict, as Tehran’s missile reach begins to challenge the security of NATO’s southern flank.
