Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte underscored that "quiet diplomacy" is the only viable path to resolve the escalating crisis over Greenland. Amid President Donald Trump’s aggressive push to acquire the Danish territory, Rutte reassured the public that the alliance remains stable despite visible structural tensions.

In a direct rebuttal to Trump’s doubts about European loyalty, Rutte affirmed: "If Article 5 is triggered, Europe will indeed rush to America’s rescue." This diplomatic exchange follows Trump’s threat to impose 25% tariffs on key allies like France and the UK, after they participated in Danish-led military drills in Greenland without U.S. involvement. Trump continues to argue that the mineral-rich island is a "vital necessity" for countering Russian and Chinese influence in the Arctic.
