The US-sanctioned Chinese tanker "Rich Starry" was forced to pull a U-turn and re-enter the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, after failing to breach the American naval blockade. US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that six merchant vessels have complied with orders to return to Iranian ports, asserting that "no ships made it past the blockade" in its first 36 hours.

Economic Strangulation:
Data from LSEG and Kpler show that zero Iranian crude oil has been exported since the blockade began. While Iran holds approximately 90 million barrels in land storage—enough to sustain production for about two months—the total halt of maritime trade is hitting 90% of its economy. Meanwhile, non-Iranian vessels bound for Iraq, such as the "Alicia" and "Agios Fanourios 1", were permitted entry to load Basra crude.
