In a stunning diplomatic snub, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has ordered a ban on U.S. Ambassador Charles Kushner from directly communicating with members of the French government. The move follows Kushner’s failure to appear at the Foreign Ministry on Monday evening after being summoned over the Trump administration’s remarks regarding the death of a far-right student, Quentin Durancq.

Barrot slammed Kushner for a "clear lack of understanding" of diplomatic norms after the U.S. Embassy reshared posts accusing France’s "far-left" of political violence. Paris view this as a blatant interference in domestic affairs. This marks the second time Kushner has skipped a formal summons since taking office last summer, pushing the 250-year-old Franco-American alliance into uncharted territory.
