Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced today, Wednesday, that Poland plans to transfer its remaining Soviet-era "MiG-29" fighter jets to Ukraine in exchange for gaining access to drone technology.

Deal and Plan Details:
Aircraft Status: The MiG-29 jets will be withdrawn from the Polish army because they have "reached the end of their service life."

Ukrainian Expertise: The Polish Defence Minister highlighted that "Ukrainians are the best when it comes to drones" among all allied countries.
Current Status: He confirmed that talks are underway, and Warsaw is determined to conclude them as soon as possible. Poland is already benefiting from Ukrainian expertise in drone-related military training.
Polish Military Context:
Fleet Replacement: Poland has largely replaced its old Soviet-era aircraft with American "F-16" and South Korean "FA-50" fighters.
Future Acquisitions: Poland is currently awaiting the delivery of 32 "F-35" jets ordered from Washington.
Remaining Jets: Poland still holds 14 MiG-29 jets after delivering several others to Kyiv following the 2022 Russian military operation.
Poland's Role: Poland, an EU and NATO member, is one of Ukraine's staunchest supporters and has served as a central hub for delivering humanitarian and military aid to Kyiv.
