In a high-stakes extraordinary session before the Somali Parliament this Sunday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a blistering critique of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The President declared that Israel’s recognition of the breakaway region of "Somaliland" constitutes the "greatest violation of Somali sovereignty in history" and a blatant act of aggression. Mohamud emphasized that such a move not only threatens regional stability but also sets a dangerous global precedent by emboldening secessionist movements worldwide, reaffirming that Somaliland remains an inseparable part of the Somali Republic.

Beyond the territorial dispute, President Mohamud addressed the Middle East crisis, stating that Somalia adamantly rejects any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, viewing it as a direct threat to the two-state solution. He further asserted that Somalia would not allow its territory to become a launchpad for military aggression or the establishment of foreign bases for regional conflicts. Supported by a joint statement from 21 nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the President vowed to utilize all diplomatic and legal avenues to defend Somalia’s territorial integrity, while calling for internal unity and a renewed dialogue with Somaliland to achieve national reconciliation.
