In an interview described by palace sources as "the most candid," Prince William, the Prince of Wales, revealed his intention to introduce significant changes to the British monarchy when he ascends the throne.

The disclosure came during his conversation for the "The Reluctant Traveller" program on Apple TV+, where Prince William explained that the changes would be "for the better," aiming to keep pace with the modern era while preserving the importance of tradition. He also emphasized the significance of family and its central role in royal life.
Positive Change: Renewal Without Abandoning Roots
Responding to a question about his future role as King, the Prince of Wales said: "I think it’s fair to say that change is on my agenda. Change for the better, I embrace it, I enjoy it. I don’t fear it, but I’m excited about the idea of being able to make some change. Not overtly radical, but changes that I believe are necessary."
Prince William stressed that adhering to tradition does not mean fearing to question it. He added: "There are times when you look at traditions and you question: Is this still fit for purpose today? Is this still the right thing to do? Are we still having the maximum impact? So I like to question things, and that’s what I really mean."
The Prince warned that excessive adherence to the past could hinder evolution, stating: "I think if you’re not careful, history can be a heavy burden on you, and you can feel very stifled and very constrained by it... I think it’s important to live in the present moment."
The Prince Discusses His Family and Paternal Anxiety
In a personal segment of the interview, the Prince of Wales touched upon the impact of his public and royal life on his family, noting that "family stuff weighs heavily on me... The worry and stress related to the family side of things weigh heavily on me."
He affirmed that his and his family's priority is to provide the necessary security and safety for their children, emphasizing the importance of open family communication. He said: "We're a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us, things that worry us. But you never know the long-term effect of that... So, it's important to be there for each other, and to reassure the children that everything is alright."
