Qatar Demands Reparations from Iran; Files Formal Complaint to UN Security Council Over "Blatant Violations" of Sovereignty

On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Qatar submitted two identical letters to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council regarding recent Iranian aggression. Doha asserted that the attacks targeted "purely civilian" infrastructure, violating the 1949 Geneva Conventions. Consequently, Qatar declared that Iran is "obligated to provide compensation" for all incurred damages, with specialized agencies currently assessing the losses.

Right to Self-Defense:
The letters emphasized that Qatar reserves the right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter, highlighting that the state will take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and the safety of its citizens and residents.
