The Israeli military has finalized preparations to reopen the Rafah Crossing for individuals for the first time in nearly two years. According to Army Radio, the new system grants the Shin Bet ultimate veto power over daily passenger lists. While departing travelers will be inspected by EU and Palestinian Authority monitors, Israel will maintain a "remote digital eye" through high-tech surveillance.

An Israeli security official will monitor the "turnstile" gate electronically using facial recognition technology, with a remote-control button to freeze all movements if unauthorized persons attempt to cross. Entry into Gaza, however, will be far more rigorous; all incoming individuals must pass through an IDF checkpoint equipped with metal detectors and biometric scanners, and will only be permitted past the "Yellow Line" after a thorough one-by-one security clearance.
