US Senator Bernie Sanders stated in an interview with CNN that Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, following his election as Mayor of New York City, has now become a "leader" in the Democratic Party.

Significance of Mamdani's Victory
Deserved Leadership: When asked if Mamdani was now a leader in the Democratic Party, Sanders replied: "Of course he is. He is going to be the Mayor of New York City."
Campaign's Importance: Sanders noted that the significance of Mamdani's victory lies not just in running a great campaign with 90,000 volunteers, but in the message of his campaign which resonated widely.
Focus on Inequality: Sanders explained that Mamdani highlighted the issue of economic inequality, pointing out that "the richest people in America are becoming astronomically wealthy" while 60% of ordinary people live "paycheck to paycheck."
Cost of Living Crisis: Sanders stressed Mamdani’s key themes: that ordinary people "cannot afford health care... cannot afford childcare... cannot afford food at the grocery store... cannot afford to retire with dignity," asserting that this message will resonate in every state across the country.
