President Donald Trump sparked a new firestorm on Wednesday and Thursday after posting on Truth Social that Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib should be "placed in a mental institution" and returned to their "original countries." The outburst followed a heated exchange during Tuesday's State of the Union address, where the two Muslim congresswomen shouted "You are killing Americans" and called him a "liar" during his remarks on immigration.

Despite both being American citizens, Trump insisted they be sent back "as fast as possible." He also reiterated unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud by the Somali community in Minnesota to justify deploying armed federal agents there. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries slammed the remarks as "xenophobic" and "disgraceful," while Tlaib responded by saying the President appears to be in a "meltdown."
