Strategic Summit in Damascus: SDF Leader Mazloum Abdi to Meet President Al-Sharaa Under U.S. Mediation

In a potentially decisive diplomatic breakthrough, the Commander-in-Chief of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, is traveling to Damascus for a landmark meeting with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa. The summit, which will be attended by U.S. Special Envoy Tom Barrack, aims to de-escalate the violent clashes between government forces and the SDF that recently erupted in Aleppo, Raqqa, and the oil-rich regions of Deir ez-Zor.

This visit follows a series of high-level discussions in Iraqi Kurdistan and marks the first direct high-profile engagement between the new Syrian leadership and Kurdish forces. While President Al-Sharaa seeks to solidify national unity under a central government, the SDF is looking for guarantees regarding its integration into state institutions by the end of 2025. This tripartite meeting is seen as a final attempt to avert a full-scale internal conflict.
