Syrian Army Deploys East Amid Deadly Clashes; Tensions Rise as Both Sides Accuse Each Other of Sabotaging Peace Deal

The Syrian Army began its deployment in Deir ez-Zor on Monday, following the historic integration agreement between President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi. While military convoys were met with local celebrations, the deployment was marred by violence. The Syrian military confirmed the deaths of three soldiers, blaming "remnants of the former regime" and terrorist groups for attempting to derail the peace process.

In a counter-claim, the SDF reported heavy fighting near the Al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa—which holds ISIS detainees—accusing the Syrian Army of launching attacks on their positions in Ein Issa and Shaddadi. This military friction poses a significant threat to the 14-point agreement intended to restore state control over oil fields and borders, raising fears that internal spoilers could ignite a fresh wave of conflict.
