Tehran Eases Hormuz Restrictions: "Non-Hostile" Ships Allowed Transit via Coordination; U.S. and Israeli Vessels Remain Banned

According to a memo seen by Reuters on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, Iran has informed the UN Security Council and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that "non-hostile" vessels may now pass through the Strait of Hormuz. The directive allows safe passage for ships not involved in or supporting military actions against Iran, provided they coordinate with Iranian authorities and adhere strictly to safety protocols.

طهران تفتح "ثغرة ملاحية" في هرمز.. السماح بمرور السفن "غير المعادية" بالتنسيق معها، واستمرار حظر الأصول الأمريكية والإسرائيلية

However, the memo explicitly maintains a total ban on all vessels, equipment, and assets belonging to the United States, Israel, or any other participants in the "aggression" against Iran. This move seeks to address the global energy crisis caused by the conflict, which had nearly halted the flow of one-fifth of the world’s oil and LNG supply through the vital waterway.
