Tensions Flare in Southern Lebanon: IDF Issues Evacuation Orders for 9 Towns Amid Heavy Airstrikes and Artillery Fire

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued urgent evacuation orders on Monday, May 11, 2026, for residents of nine towns and villages across Southern Lebanon and the Western Beqaa region. According to the National News Agency (NNA), the warnings targeted the following areas: Aishiyeh (Jezzine), Jarjouh, Kfar Roummane, An-Numayriyah, Arabsalim, Al-Jumayjimah, Harouf, and the towns of Machghara and Qallaya in the Western Beqaa.

Aerial Escalation and Ground Bombardment The evacuation alerts were accompanied by a significant surge in military activity. Israeli warplanes resumed strikes on the town of Toul in the Nabatieh district and launched a series of raids on Yohmor al-Chqif, Kfar Tibnit, and the vicinity of the orphanage in Choukine. Simultaneously, the outskirts of Arnoun, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, and Mayfadoun were subjected to intermittent artillery shelling, marking a dangerous escalation in the border conflict.

The Fragility of the "Trump-Netanyahu-Aoun" Truce This latest wave of violence occurs despite the ceasefire framework announced by U.S. President Donald Trump in mid-April. The agreement followed high-level discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, and was subsequently extended on April 23. However, the continuous exchange of fire between the IDF and Hezbollah threatens to collapse the fragile diplomatic breakthrough, as both sides engage in repeated violations of the cessation of hostilities.
