High-stakes negotiations in Damascus ended in failure on Monday as Mazloum Abdi, commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reportedly reneged on a unity agreement signed just 24 hours earlier. During a grueling five-hour session attended by President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, Abdi refused to sever ties with the $PKK$ or integrate the SDF into the national defense framework, insisting on maintaining autonomous control over Al-Hasakah.

President Sharaa rejected Abdi’s request for a consultation period, issuing an ultimatum: finalize the agreement by tonight or face a military resolution. Amidst this tension, Sharaa held a crucial phone call with President Donald Trump. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Syria's territorial integrity and the defeat of ISIS, signaling a unified stance that emphasizes Kurdish rights within the Syrian state, effectively isolating the SDF leadership's separatist demands.
