The "Eastern Wall" and Drone Traps: Israel’s Multi-Billion Shekel Border Fortification Plan

The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday the commencement of a massive strategic project to construct a sophisticated security barrier along the eastern border with Jordan. Budgeted at 5.5 billion NIS, the project spans 500 kilometers from the Golan Heights to north of Eilat, aiming to thwart arms smuggling and counter regional threats.

"الجدار الشرقي" و"صائدات المسيّرات": استراتيجية إسرائيل الجديدة لتحصين الحدود

Phase One and the Technological Shield The initial phase involves constructing two segments totaling 80 kilometers, specifically targeting valleys and plains. This is not merely a physical fence; it is a multi-layered defense system integrating advanced radars, high-resolution cameras, and AI-driven data systems designed to detect and neutralize threats in real-time.

Countering Iran and the Rise of "Energy Weapons" Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the barrier is a direct response to efforts by Iran and its proxies to establish an "Eastern Front" against Israel. In tandem, Brigadier General Benny Aminov revealed significant breakthroughs in anti-drone warfare. Israel is accelerating the development of "interceptor drones" and directed-energy weapons to combat swarm attacks, fostering a rapid-response collaboration between boutique tech firms and major defense contractors.

A Holistic Border Ecosystem Eran Ofir, head of the Borders and Seam Zone Directorate, emphasized that the project includes a "complete ecosystem." Beyond military deployment, the plan integrates civil infrastructure, including water, agriculture, and healthcare, to bolster border settlements and ensure long-term strategic dominance over the region.
