Summit Agenda and Key Topics

Yury Ushakov, Russian presidential aide for foreign affairs, stated that the main topic of the talks will be the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis. He confirmed that this issue will be "central" to the agenda, especially in light of discussions held at the Kremlin on August 6, with the participation of U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

According to the Russian news agency "TASS," the two leaders will also discuss "a range of issues related to ensuring peace and security, along with international and regional matters," indicating a broad agenda that extends beyond the Ukrainian crisis.

Time and Location of the Meeting

The summit is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. Alaska time (19:30 GMT) and will take place at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Ushakov confirmed that the initial meeting between Putin and Trump will be one-on-one, with only interpreters present, and described it as having a "business-like character," a sign of the serious and focused nature of the talks.

Delegations and Joint Press Conference

Following the bilateral meeting, delegations from both countries will join the presidents for expanded negotiations in a "five-on-five" format. The Russian delegation includes prominent figures such as Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, presidential aide Yury Ushakov, and the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev. The members of the U.S. delegation have been identified but their names have not yet been announced.

At the conclusion of the talks, the two leaders will hold a joint press conference to present the results of the summit. Notably, the Russian delegation will depart from Alaska immediately after the conclusion of the talks.

Symbolism of the Location

The Russian newspaper "Kommersant" reported that the Kremlin views the summit's location in Alaska, near the burial site of Soviet pilots, as having "symbolic significance." This may reflect an attempt to build bridges of trust and recall a shared past.

In preparation for the summit, President Putin held a meeting with senior Russian officials and government representatives to discuss all aspects related to the upcoming talks.
