The Nuclear "Commando" Mission: Washington and Tel Aviv Plot Special Operations Inside Iran

High-level intelligence sources have revealed to Axios that the United States and Israel are actively discussing a high-stakes plan to deploy Special Operations Forces (SOF) into Iranian territory. This strategic initiative, envisioned for a later phase of the ongoing conflict, aims to achieve physical control over Iran’s stockpiles of highly enriched uranium. Preventing Iran from achieving nuclear breakout capability remains a cornerstone of President Donald Trump’s national security agenda, and these proposed raids are seen as the final guarantee against a nuclear-armed Tehran.

Operational Strategy and Key Options U.S. and Israeli defense officials are weighing two primary operational paths to secure the sensitive materials located within fortified underground facilities:

  1. Total Extraction: A complex logistical operation to physically remove all enriched nuclear materials from Iran and transport them to a secure international location.

  2. On-Site Dilution: Infiltrating nuclear scientists and experts, alongside elite combat units, to chemically dilute the uranium enrichment levels on-site, rendering the material useless for military purposes.

Tactical Readiness and Site Status Reports indicate that previous strikes in June 2025 severely damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, particularly at the Isfahan, Fordow, and Natanz sites, burying the enriched uranium under massive amounts of debris. President Trump has signaled that while "boots on the ground" are a possibility, they would only be deployed for "very good reasons" and only after the Iranian military is "hit so hard" that it can no longer mount a credible defense. These would be "limited, surgical raids" rather than a full-scale territorial invasion, utilizing the world’s most elite special forces units and nuclear specialists.
