The terrifying "Milton" intensifies and threatens Florida.. and an urgent announcement from Biden

Hurricane Milton intensified on Tuesday to reach the maximum category, with wind speeds of 270 km / h, according to the US Hurricane Center, which warned that this destructive hurricane continues to crawl towards Florida through the Gulf of Mexico.

The center stated that "Milton's strength may fluctuate as it moves through the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico, but it is expected to be a large and dangerous hurricane when it reaches the west-central coast of Florida on Wednesday evening."


Milton is expected to hit Florida on the night of Wednesday-Thursday.


Milton previously reached this maximum category before being reduced to the fourth category on the Saffir-Simpson scale, which consists of five ascending categories.


President Joe Biden warned residents in areas threatened by the hurricane in Florida that they could face the "worst storm" to hit their state "in a century."


The hurricane is currently moving in the Gulf of Mexico from the southwest to the northeast.


On Tuesday, its passage off the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico did not cause any casualties, as the damage was limited materially.


On Tuesday, Ron DeSantis, the governor of the southeastern US state of Florida, reported that "the entire Florida peninsula is under some kind of watch or warning."


On the sidelines of a meeting he chaired at the White House to discuss preparations for this devastating hurricane, Biden said that Milton could be "the worst storm to hit Florida in a century."


Addressing the residents of the third most populous state in the country, the president added: "You must evacuate now, it is a matter of life and death."
