Trump Aide: Greenland Legitimately Belongs to America

Stephen Miller, a senior advisor to President Donald Trump, stated that Greenland legitimately belongs to the United States and that the Trump administration could seize the semi-autonomous Danish territory if it wished to do so. In remarks to CNN, when repeatedly asked if he would rule out military force, Miller replied: "No one is going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland."

A New World Order: The New York Times reported that Miller’s comments are part of an explicit campaign to justify "American Imperialism." Miller articulated a vision of a new world order where the U.S. can freely topple national governments and seize foreign lands and resources as long as it serves the national interest. "We live in a world—in the real world—governed by power, governed by power, governed by power," Miller said, adding that these are the "iron laws" of the world since the beginning of time.

Venezuela and NATO: Miller also echoed Trump’s intentions regarding Venezuela following the U.S. operation that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. "The United States of America is running Venezuela," Miller asserted, dismissing international treaties on sovereignty. The New York Times noted that a forced takeover of Greenland would shatter the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO), as Denmark is a founding member. Trump had previously stated he would not rule out using the military to take control of the island.
