In a high-stakes speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Donald Trump called for immediate negotiations to acquire Greenland, describing it as a "defenseless" strategic necessity for U.S. national security. While disclaiming the use of military force, Trump issued a stern warning to European allies: support the acquisition or face escalating trade penalties.

Trump’s "America First" rhetoric included a threat to impose 10% to 25% tariffs on eight European nations, including the UK, France, and Denmark, starting February 1st. In response, British PM Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron slammed the threats as "completely wrong," with London signaling potential retaliatory measures. Amidst the Greenland fervor, NATO Chief Mark Rutte warned that the world is dangerously neglecting the Ukraine crisis, which remains stalled as global attention shifts to Trump’s Arctic ambitions.
