Trump "Disappointed" with Zelensky for Blocking Peace Plan; Russia Welcomes Anti-Europe US Security Strategy

US President Donald Trump expressed his "some disappointment" on Sunday with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, for the latter's lack of engagement with the proposed US peace plan aimed at ending the war with Russia.

ترامب "يُحبط" من زيلينسكي لعرقلة خطة السلام.. وروسيا ترحب بالاستراتيجية الأمريكية الجديدة المعادية لأوروبا

Trump's Stance on Zelensky:

  • Speaking to reporters, Trump said he was disappointed that President Zelensky "had not read the proposal yet," noting the proposal was delivered just hours earlier.

Russian Welcome and "America First" Approach:

  • Russian Endorsement: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed the new US National Security Strategy (NSS) announced by the Trump administration, describing the adjustments as "largely consistent with our vision," and expressing hope it would facilitate constructive joint work towards a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.

  • New NSS Highlights ("America First"): The document emphasizes dominance in Latin America and combating mass migration, while still viewing China as the main competitor.

  • Harsh European Criticism: The NSS harshly criticized European allies, asserting Washington will support opponents of EU-led values. The strategy suggests Europe faces "civilizational erasure" and questions whether European nations will remain strong enough to be reliable allies.

  • Stance on Russia: The strategy uses softer language towards Russia, not portraying it as a threat. The document calls for the US to "re-establish strategic stability with Russia" and blames the EU for hindering US efforts to end the conflict.

International Criticism:

  • EU officials and analysts criticized the strategy, comparing its language to Kremlin rhetoric and expressing concern that it could weaken the unified Western stance towards Moscow.
