Former US President, Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that he does not intend to seek a summit with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. However, he did not rule out the possibility of visiting China if he receives a formal and direct invitation from Beijing.

In a post on his social media platform, "Truth Social," Trump clearly stated: "I might go to China, but that would only be upon invitation from President Xi... Otherwise, I wouldn't be interested." This declaration sets a fundamental condition for Trump to visit China, indicating that such a visit would only occur at the initiative of the Chinese side.
Trump's statement comes at a time when relations between the United States and China are characterized by chronic and escalating tensions. These tensions encompass sharp trade issues, deep geopolitical disagreements, primarily including the sensitive issue of Taiwan, in addition to disputes over technology and global supply chains, which constitute major friction points between the two global powers.
While Trump avoided discussing any new or extensive diplomatic initiatives in this context, his hint at a potential visit to China reflects a conditional openness to dialogue. This openness is contingent upon the availability of what he described as the "appropriate framework," which he deems necessary for such a visit. This suggests he would only make such a move if there are clear indications of a serious reception and diplomatic engagement.
