As the third year of war on Gaza begins, Israel is confronting a string of unprecedented defeats, with record human and economic tolls shaking its society. Ongoing offensives in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, and Iran have caused damage that analysts describe as the heaviest in decades.

Collapse Begins: "Black Saturday"
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched the "Al-Aqsa Flood" in retaliation for Israeli actions against Palestinians. Hundreds of Qassam fighters crossed the border, executing high-impact attacks that killed 1,179 Israelis and captured 251 in a single day—the deadliest in modern Israeli history.
Military and Police Losses: Blood on Every Front
Israel’s Defense Ministry admits 1,152 soldiers killed, including over 487 young recruits and more than 140 aged over 40. The losses span army, police, intelligence, and special forces on all fronts. Over 6,300 injured are officially recorded, but independent sources estimate the true number is closer to 20,000.
Civilians: No One Spared by War
Since the war began, 978 Israeli civilians, including 84 foreigners, have died. The October 7 attack claimed 778 civilian lives alone. Injuries and trauma are widespread—over 80,000 wounded, more than 30,000 suffering severe psychological disorders.
Fronts and the Gaza Battlefield
The majority of losses are on the Gaza front (1,721 dead, 870 of them military), followed by the West Bank, Lebanon, Iran, and minor attacks from Yemen.
A Wave of Internal Displacement
War has displaced over 164,000 Israelis; 85% had returned by early 2025, leaving thousands still unable to go home due to unrest and insecurity.
Conclusion
Prolonged hostilities have battered the Israeli front, plunging it into historic crises. This chain of defeats is rewriting Israel’s future—psychologically, economically, and socially—for years to come.
