U.S. Condemns "Horrific Atrocities" in Sudan, Accusing Both Sides of Using Starvation as a Weapon of War

The U.S. State Department's Bureau of African Affairs issued a blistering statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026, denouncing the "horrific atrocities" committed by both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The U.S. highlighted specific attacks, including SAF drone strikes on the "Al-Naam Market" and an RSF-linked strike on the "Quick Hospital" that killed healthcare workers.

Washington expressed grave concern over the targeting of World Food Programme (WFP) facilities and the killing of its staff, describing the destruction of humanitarian supplies as a blatant violation of international law.
