The US State Department spokesman said that Washington believes that Israel's response to Iran is appropriate, stressing that Israel has the ability to make the decisions it deems appropriate and protect its citizens.

The US State Department spokesman indicated that the United States did not participate in the recent Israeli attacks against Iran, but it had been in contact with the Israeli side for several months, and that talks and discussions took place between Washington and Tel Aviv before these attacks.

Regarding Iran's request to hold an emergency meeting of the Security Council and its belief that Israel violated international law, Warburg said: 'The United States believes that Israel violated the law because it defended itself against repeated threats from Iran and against attacks and missile marches. It does not support this idea and does not support any attempt by Iran to discuss this issue in the Security Council.'

Sam Warburg called for a de-escalation between the parties to the conflict, “including Israel, Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas,” and stressed that the United States is focused on trying to end the conflict in the region.

Regarding communication with Iran, he indicated that the United States has the ability to send a clear message to Tehran through diplomatic channels in New York and through several countries in the region.

He said: “If Iran wants to calm the situation, it must stop funding and arming its proxies and militias in the region.”

Commenting on the Egyptian proposal for a two-day ceasefire in Gaza, which Israeli Channel 12 reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had rejected, a US State Department spokesperson said: “Washington welcomes any new ideas from mediators, whether Egyptian or Qatari, but it is important to note that Israel and Hamas are ready to accept any new project.

“After the killing of Yahya Sinwar [Hamas leader in Gaza], Hamas’s position has become unclear.

‘While we feel the need to free the hostages, impose a ceasefire, and increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza, it is not up to us to impose this outcome on the parties. We hope that Hamas, Israel and all parties in the region will make the necessary efforts to stop this war.
