President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday that Russia marked the first week of 2026 with a massive aerial campaign, deploying over 1,000 drones and 1,070 glide bombs against Ukraine. Speaking at a high-level security meeting in Kyiv, Zelensky emphasized that while diplomacy is the priority, Ukraine remains prepared to defend itself should Moscow block a just peace. He called on allies for "predictable" military aid to force Russia toward the negotiating table.

On the diplomatic front, Zelensky revealed that a framework for ending the war is "90% complete," though the final 10% regarding occupied territories remains the critical hurdle. The meeting, which included Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff via video link, serves as a prelude to next week's crucial summit in France. Concurrently, Zelensky reshuffled his top leadership, appointing intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov as Head of the Presidential Office, signaling a strategic consolidation as the conflict nears its four-year mark.
